10) Last day in Eng102

In my last course in Eng102, I had great time. We had pub-quiz and my group was the best. We took 32 points from the pub-quiz and WE WON.
Firstly, I am very glad to be with my group partner. Secondly, I want to thank Sonja and Elif for cookies and tiramisu. These were very delicious , tasteful and yummy.
And in the end of the courses, I like the flower which Sonja gave us to sign as a memory from B2 section. I think this idea is wonderful because this action got the class closer.
Lastly, I was really enjoy in this semester when I were in the class. I tried to attend class regularly and except last weeks I did. I did bot join the course las weeks because I was ill. Actually, I still had no voice but I hope that I will gain again.
I deeply tahnk you Sonja for your all kind interests and helps. I hope we can meet again.
Have good time....

Didem

Today I submitted my last work of this year. Before the submission, I felt little bit nervous owing to the fact thatI was afraid not to complete my research paper. Happy ending:) I finished it on time and submitted before 11.00 pm. I started to rewrite my essay at wednesday but because of the exams and the other homework, I cannot completely focused on my research project. Yesterday morninig I had an appointment with Sonja to get another feedback. This second feedback was helpful for me like the first one. It was a kind of guidence which lead me to write better final research paper. I divided my paragraphs into 7 sections to make it more organized and clear. I added 2 more sources which include the statistics and the story of Hanife. Sonja suggested me to use some statistics in my essay to make the essay more interesting and realistic. Then I decided to use Hanife because Hanife was a girl who was killed by her brother. So, the story can be a good example of my search. Also, I wrote more than the draft essay. I checked my grammer mistakes because I had a lot at my draft essay.

Also today, I send my i-research essay too. I completed all questions and tried to answer them clearly and honestly. This was my first experience with i-research paper. However, evaluating myself make me feel better. I can realised the difference between my first essays and the last essay. All in this period, I wrote essays and searched a lot from books and on internet. Now I can easily see the improvement.

Finally, this night when I go to the bed, I can sleep deeply and I am not planning to wake up early in the morning. I need to store sleep because I have exams next week but my homework, projects, essays, books finished. So many of my responsibilities finish until this time.

8) Amin Maaluf

I read the text The Death Identity which was written by Amin Maaluf because of studying to pub-quiz. Actually, I did not understand this story well but I have an idea about double nationality. also, he tells about the difficulties of chosing the identity if person belong two different countries. The author was born in Libenon but after 27 years, he had lived in France for 22 years. At the begining, he mentoined thathow his feelings was about where he come from. Then, he comment people come from where they feel deep inside. So, I think that it must be like that because after living in some where for a long time, person becomes as the citizen of that country because he or she adopts the cukture of countries. his or her life style is shaped with this country's conditions. who can decide where this person belong. However, we live under legacy which includes rules to administrate country and according to this rules the nationality of people who adopted another country. they can not chose.

Who is a whiz kids?

I just wanted to my child memory and my memory can be an example for the text of Ted Gup. He mentioned about the stereotyping in his text.

My memory is about my slant eye. I have slant eyes and everybody says me that I looked like an Asian people until when I was young. Also, I have lots of nickname such as Tatarcık, Nigerian, Japan, Korean, Goldenfish especially when I was young (also, japonbalığı is the turkish name of Goldenfish) During the primary school time, the children ,who were in my school , jumped in front of me with action like making karate and started to shout 'hiaaaaa' like Bruce Lee. Then, they said that ; 'you are a Japan, so you know karate. Teach us...' and then I answered them 'I am not Japan, I am Turk' but I always thought if I were a Japan, do I need to know karate? or every Japan have to know fight techniques. Asians fights are their custom like folkdance. I am Turks and Turkey has kinds of folkdance but I did just know one, this was the dance of Blacksea region.

Besides my memory, Ted Gup tells stereotypes in his text which is called Who is a whiz kid? He mentioned that when a person saw a child, person thought what this child will be in the future according to the country of child. then he illustrated this thought with his children who was adopted from Asian country. He tells that when people see the Asian kids, they think they are good at math but maybe child will interested in bugs like the son of Author and yong man will be good at biology.

6)The summer section

In the summer section, there are two important point. These are the the action which is dobe by Frieda and claudia to keep Pecola's baby alive ,and Pecola has the blue eyes .

I think the summer section is thebest part of the novel because we can see the real friendship. Frieda and Claudia show this friendship. Frieda and Claudia sacrifice their money which is saved for new bycle in order to keep baby alive. So, this is the big altruism because they are just near11 years old, they are children. In my opinion, their actions are very valuable as telling without words.
Another effective point in the novel is the having blue eye by Pecola. She becomes mad and starts to talk with imanigary friend. I think this shows the purity of the girl. She reacts her feeling as talking with nobody such as when the imaginary friend asked question about Cholly, she gets angry. Also, she assume that shehad blue eye in the end of the story. I think she wants to closed her eyes against the reality, she wants to be happy in the end.

5) Spring section in the Bluest Eye

First of all in this section, we read the event between Henry and Frieda. Henry touch Fridea's breast and when she told that to her parent, they got angry.

Secondly, we read about Mrs Breedlove. The novel tell the reader about how she became crippled, the place where she grown up, how she et with Cholly and their marriage life. The summirize of their marriage, they were happy in the first time of thier marriage but thier happiness was broken because of money issue. However , their happiness increased after she got pregnant.

Thirdly, the novel tell us about Cholly's past. He was abondoned by his own mother. She left him on a tarsh and his Aunt Jimmy rescued him. Then we can learn that why Cholly hates white men, how and where he met his father, Sumson Fuller. Besides the past, we can read that he raped his own daughter in this section.

Additionally, the novel emphisize the racisim in these two part of the story. Whitepeople do not adopt black peole as a human. so, wherewe canunderstand that in the novel. Pirmarly, when Pauline having a baby, the docter told the black women felt no pain while they giving a birthlikea horse. And as the second sign of the racism, when Cholly hada sexwith Darlene, three white men watch them like watching movie. So, these mean that the balck people has no right to be human. This is unfair.

Fourthly, we get information about Soaphead Church in this section. Also, we can learn that Pecola wantste blue eyes from Soaphead Church.

4) Autumn in The Bluest Eye

Autumn section is the first section of book. In this section we meet with MacTeer family, Breedloves family, Henry, China, Poland and Miss Marie. These people have mutual point in this book; they are black. Macteer and Breedloves family are the main character of this book. MacTeer Family consists of Mr and Mrs Macteer, Claudia who is nine years old and she is the narrator of the book, and Frieda who is 10 year old. Mr Henry is a te roomer of this family and he smells nice. The Breedloves consists of Mrs Breedloves who is called Pauline, Cholly who is the fatheri Sammy who is 14 years old son and Pecola who 11 years old doughter. Chine, Poland and Miss Marie are the whores who live above The Breedloves' apartment and Pecola is thier friend. Additionaly, we can see the describing of Breedloves' apartmen and some detail about the Breedloves family in this section. detail about this family shows us like that Cholly and Pauline who are the father and mother of Breedlove family argued all the time beacuse Cholly came home as drunk because of money issue.

Also, book mentioned about uglyness in this setion. These people ar black so the believe they are ugly. We can see that in different part of thşs section. Firstly, Claudia doe not like her doll because her doll has white skind and blonde hair. She associates beauty with these physical characteristic. additionally, we can see this opinion when we read about Breeloves family. They believe they are ugly because the are poor and black. I said Cholly and Pauline argued and when they argued Pecoline becomes sad and she thinks that if she has blue eyes, she will be beautiful and nobody argues. So, she ate Mary Jane which is the candy. This candy shapes like girl that has blonde hair and blue eyes. Pecola eats this candy because when she eats this candy, she will be women who has blue eyes and blonde hair.

Monday, 26 April 2010

I started with winter section to this book because I understood clearly this section. I needed to read Autumn section again and I did but I had no time to comment for that. So, I will write about autumn section after winter section.
In this section, the new caharacter which is called Maureen Peal appears in the winter section. She is new girl in school which Frieda, Claudia and Pecola went. She is black and rich. Whole school adore her because she is superior. One day, when they go to their home they started to talked. They talked about naked man and Pecola's father as sleeping naked. Claudia and Frieda tried to stop conservation about Pecola's naked father. I can guess about them. I think they afraid from sexual thing because they tried to stop her words. Because they know Pecola had injuries about sexual harresment. After that, this conservation turns about uglyness. Maureen said them that they were ugly because of thair skins were black. They hurts. So, we can see the reaction againt to be black.

Next, there is a family, Geraldine, Junior, and the black cat. Grealdine is a mother who cares to her black boody and her clothes. Junior is Geraldine's son. Mother said to her son to play with white children because she believe there is a class between black and white people so Junior growns with this ideas. So, when he net with Pecola and he kellied the cat but he said that his mom, Pecola killed the cat. When she said her: "nasty little black bitch", we can understant her ideas about class between black anad white people. There is and racism in this section as we see.

2) Hanife by Sevgi Soysal

The short story ,called 'Hanife', places in 'Barış Adlı Çocuk' which was written by Sevgi Soysal. This story tells that the reason of killing Hanife, the personality of Hanife, the idea by killers in order to kill Hanife and the juggement of villagers to Hanife.

Before I said my opinion about the story, I wanted to introduce Hanife. Hanife is a 15 years old girl who lived in village with her family. Her family arranged marriage when she was little with Mustafa. She is growing up without love by family. When she grown, she wanted to be the wife od governor. I do not understand why she want that but I just predict that she may have money or she may be in bigger status from her family because she sometimes she called her brother as peasant. Also, story starts with the death of Hanife. The reason of that Hanife dishonoured because she was cheated by Hasan. Hasan said that he made her the wife of governor and he wanted to be with Hanife but Hanife did not. After that Hasan beated Hanife and he took what he wanted from her. So, she dishonour and she became bad girl in the eyes of society and family. This is the reason why Hanife was killed by her family is that the cleaning the honour of family.

I read this story criously because I saw the view of village to women. According to society, the guilty is Hanife and her offence is that the relationship with Hasan forceto. In the village women are guilty whatever they do and also everybody accepts these stiuation, they accept that female generation could be guilty without the judgement. I can understand that from the act of other women in village. Thay said she was a bad woman and they, even children, throw stone to her corpse. Besides her innocence, she had already been killed, that is enough; why they lapidated. Nobody judge that, nobody asked why she became bad women. Her brother saw them, he saw that she did did not want to be with Hasan and he saw that Hasan used her as using violence but Ahmet thought the honour of family. He thought that they have to kill Hanife in order to absolve their name. He did not wanted to help her. Additionally, there is no word about Hasan. However, women can be used, beated and dishonoured; and they are always guilty in society. Why it could be like that, why any women did not judge their situation or why they did not advocate their right in society as a human.

I researched some information about Sevgi Soysal and I supose she wanted to attract attention to the place of women with her stories and she succeed that. So, I agree with her about the injustice against women.

Violence for why

I started my blog with my report topic that is about violence. I chose this topic because violence used for any reason against human, and violence places inside society especially in Turkey. It is said that violence is seen mostly in the eastern side of Turkey but we do not have to go there in order to see that, there are many women who are pounded by their husbunds or fathers every city of Turkey (even in İstanbul). Also, young people begin to think that violence is the most effective parts of being adult because we can see that high school students stab his peers in news. Lastly, I want to mention about honour killing. Because of that, most of innocent people are exposed to violence. Women are killed due to have innocent feelings or just look different sex. Also, most of male are compiled to be killer in young age because of customs. The reason why they have to be killer is that another men killed his father or looked differently his sister.

So, there are many that I can juxtapose how we can see violenceinside society. In my opinion there are many reason to be proponent of violence such as uneducating people, media leading or tradition. Also, I chose this topic for these reason that I mentioned above. May be I can advocate my own gender and innocent young people against violence.
